Beauty of Joseon Sunscreen Review
What Does SPF 50+ Pa++++ Mean?
Alright, let’s dive into the ins and outs of sun protection, shall we? SPF, or Sun Protection Factor, is like that dependable friend we all need when we’re having a beach day—the higher the number, the longer you can bask in the sun’s glow without a burn. The SPF 50 in Beauty of Joseon Sunscreen means you get a solid 50 times the protection compared to if you went sun commando.
The PA sunscreen rating system, short for “Protection Grade of UVA,” is a crucial factor to understand. While SPF (sun protection factor) primarily measures UVB protection, the PA rating focuses solely on UVA protection. Both types of rays are detrimental to our skin, albeit in different ways. UVB rays lead to redness and sunburn, while UVA rays cause significant damage to our skin’s genes. Surprisingly, it wasn’t until the 1990s that the true extent of UVA’s harmful effects became widely recognized. They are the primary culprits behind signs of aging and skin cancer, and they also account for the majority of the sun’s energy.
SPF AND PA Protection
Broad-spectrum sunscreen provides comprehensive protection against UVA and UVB rays. While SPF measures UVB rays, which can cause premature aging and melanoma, this PA++++ sunscreen offers 16 times more protection than wearing no sunscreen and focuses on UVA rays. It is crucial to choose skincare products that shield you from both types of radiation. Look for the Broad Spectrum label on sunscreens and cosmetics in the United States, as it indicates protection from both forms of damaging radiation. PA+ ratings measure a product’s ability to block UVA rays and can be found on various sunscreens, healthy makeup, and skincare products. Since this product was not made in the United States, it doesn’t use the “broad spectrum” language, but nonetheless, it protects against both UVA and UVB rays.
Here are the SPF and PA tests I grabbed from beautyofjoseon.com
SPF and PA tests were completed in labs in both Korea and Spain, and these results:
[SPF] Korean Lab : 52.5±5.8 Spain Lab : 63.1±0.6 [PA] Korean Lab : UVA PF 16.1±2.4 P++++ Spain Lab : UVA PF 19 P++++ |
Is the Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun Rice Probiotics Chemical or Mineral?
The Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics SPF50+ PA++++ is a chemical sunscreen that offers exceptional protection. Chemical sunscreens work by absorbing UV rays and converting them into heat, while mineral sunscreens physically block the UV rays from penetrating the skin.
What About the Ingredients?
Two aspects of this product particularly intrigued me: its high SPF 50+ and UVA protection, as well as its impressive list of ingredients. One of the key ingredients is a blend of rice extract and grain-fermented extracts. These extracts contain essential vitamins B, C, and E, along with amino acids and minerals. These nourishing components provide deep hydration and a soothing effect, making it ideal for dry skin.
Here is the ingredient list from beautyofjoseon.com.

What About the Texture?
The lightweight cream texture of this sunscreen is reminiscent of a light moisturizer. It effortlessly absorbs into the skin, leaving it hydrated and smooth. This sunscreen feels like a light moisturizing cream, without any stickiness or slipperiness, even with multiple applications. It seamlessly blends into the skin, providing a natural glow without any white residue.
Does it Leave a White Cast?
Absolutely not! The first time I used this sunscreen, I was so impressed because I thought it would definitely leave a white cast! Trying it out pleasantly surprised me. What’s impressive is that it doesn’t leave any white cast, even on darker, melanated skin tones. The result is a super smooth and clear complexion, with a subtle glow. When I wear it, my skin looks like I have a filter on it. Even when applied generously before makeup, it doesn’t clump or appear cakey. In fact, it creates the perfect base for makeup application. Whether worn alone or under makeup, I like this sunscreen. It gives the skin a beautiful and radiant glow that I’ve never experienced with other sunscreens.
My Final Thoughts on Beauty of Joseon Sunscreen Review
As you may already know, the La Mar SPF 50 sunscreen has always been one of my top go-to sunscreens. I absolutely adore that product. However, this Beaut of Joseon sunscreen is giving it a run for its money. Let’s be honest, the La Mer sunscreen can be quite pricey, whereas this sunscreen from Beauty of Joseon offers a delightful and more affordable alternative. Not only does it contain fantastic skin-loving ingredients that I truly appreciate, but it also provides me with equal, if not superior, SPF coverage. This makes all the difference when deciding how to effectively protect my skin from the harmful rays of the sun.
So ultimately, yes! I totally recommend this product! You can find it in my TikTok shop. If you want to see it in action on TikTok, click here. And hey, don’t forget to check out my store if you’re curious about giving other Korean skincare products a try!
